Red Rover is a 55 foot Nordhavn, commonly called a Nordhavn 55. Nordhavn is a brand owned by Pacific Asian Enterprises out of Dana Point, California. She was built in 2005 in China and she is hull number 5 (N5505). Lots of 5’s! In fact, her first owner felt that 5’s were lucky numbers and called her Higher Five. He then sold her to a lovely couple from Yakima, WA who named her Lily Pad, as one of her new owners was named Lily. Both of Red Rover’s first two owners went onto purchase Nordhavn 76 models. Red Rover’s third owners, who we purchased her from were also great stewards of this amazing boat, and had previously owned a Nordhavn 57. They gave her the stately name of Insignia.
Why did we call her Red Rover? You can read about that choice in a previous post, linked here.
Red Rover has a Lugger 1276 main engine, rated at 340 hp. A Lugger is a marinized John Deere engine and was built right here in Ballard where we live on Red Rover today. She also has a Lugger 984 “get-home” wing engine that will move us toward the shore if we ever need it. We typically cruise at about 8 knots and without a giant tide push, we max out at about 10 knots.
Red Rover has two primary staterooms, each with an ensuite head as well as a captain’s cabin off of the pilothouse. There is also a day head in the pilothouse. She is comfortable, warm and fabulous.
